Jane sighed, wearing nothing but a pair of thong underwear and an ostentatious set of heels, her lips curled downwards in a sort of exasperated expression that would only ever hint at one thing. She had no idea what to wear. It wasn’t a typical thing for her, in fact it was usually quite the opposite. Not much thought ever went into her style, she just sort of threw on whatever was most comfortable and for the most part it worked. But tonight was different, because she was going out.. And unlike the majority of females her age and of her social standing, she actually gave a flying fuck if something were to go awry and she had no way to fix it. So simplicity was best but… she felt like being elaborate. Like being in a pretty pretty princess dress with her hair curled and coiffed, totally the opposite of how she usually approached things. Despite the usual functional chic she managed to uphold, Jane was feeling the urge to do something a little different.. So it was with this in mind that she rifled through her closet, searching somewhat desperately for that one black dress she’d found and worn to that one event with her one friend back in that one town… yeah, very specific. Frustrated, she finally made a noise of aggravation and threw the shoes she’d been holding against the floor, flopping back and staring at the ceiling of her closet for a moment while she tried to remember where she put it. It was perfect for whatever she felt like doing, long… showed off her entire chest and some of her stomach, classic black.. So obviously it was perfect for dinner and maybe a couple rounds of drinks with Ray while they discussed whatever the fuck they wanted to talk about. Something about the man always made her want to dress up, she didn’t know what it was but she certainly wasn’t complaining. Jane would jump on the bandwagon of anything that would fix her up, or even remotely address her numerous social issues. Cordial, and nothing more… so boring. She knew it, everyone else knew it. But no one knew exactly how to fix it, except for her lovely acquaintance, J.D.
Her hair was short, so doing much with it was out of the question and she wasn’t really that concerned with how it would end up. She was blessed with the good hair gene from her father, a man who hadn’t lost a strand of his gorgeous, thick hair.. And apparently he passed on the dark, glossy locks to his daughter, even though nearly everything else was from her mom’s side of the family. Even her slender, tree-limb like body was from her mumzie. Not that she was really close with them to begin with, but it didn’t matter. Shoving her fingers through her strands, Jane pouted a bit before she finally remembered shoving it into a drawer somewhere, and crossed the room to find it, happily enough. She did a small, cheerful dance and soon thereafter was ready, little to no effort going into the look apart from grabbing a clutch off of the table and calling Ray to let him know of the destination for that night. La Bergerie, which she’d heard from several reliable sources was a good place to go if you wanted to blow all of your pocket cash and still end up unfulfilled. The portions were tiny, something Jane wasn’t used to after growing up in New York, but it didn’t matter given the fact that she rarely ate much anyway. Call it a European thing, if you would.
Sliding into her car, it was only around a five minute drive to the location, her apartment being conveniently located right in the middle of the city. Unlikely, really, but there was a spot right out front for her to pull into and she quickly did so, stepping out of the vehicle with a peaceful, vaguely excited air surrounding her. Nodding to the man who opened the door for her, Jane stepped inside and scanned the bar area for Ray, hoping his distinguished appearance would aid in her attempt to find him before she requested a second table.

It was fancy and romantic -- two things Ray normally hated, especially when they were together. It made him drift back to his godforsaken memories of Joe. Joe, fucking Joe. Joe Dildo. Joe the Ho. He had plenty of other rude and degrading nicknames for his longtime ex, but he hadn't really thought about the guy for a few months now. A few months was a very long time for Ray. The masochist was commonly found mulling over things that happened years ago, but Joe was somewhat of an extreme case. Ray hated him, with everything he had. He would never trust again because of him. He gave everything to that guy, and he pulled a jump, hump and dump on him. Filthy whore. That was what he had said before he left. Nothing but a filthy whore. Ray had lived up to that name, too. He was sure he had fucked pretty much every male employee at the magazine company, and a few more employees outside of it, too. He would never deny the fact that he was addicted to sex. He had even said it a few times to people. Acceptance was the first step to recovery. Hrm, too bad he didn't want to recover.
Chewing on the inside of his cheek idly, he stared at his ensemble in his full-body mirror in his bathroom. Though he would try and act like he was fully satisfied with his appearance every day he went out in public, he found thousands of little faults that he had to use cover-up and other outrageous makeup on to hide it. Freckles, for example. One may never have guessed that there were thousands of those damned little dots scattered all over his pale complexion. He had been a redhead before he dyed his hair, which would explain his pale skin and freckled face... he despised those things. Maybe it was because it reminded him of his past personality, of what he had been so long ago. It reminded him of the days when he was around Joe, happy and carefree, kind and caring... those days, that personality... it was gone, all gone. Only Dolores saw him in his true form nowadays... although Jane was starting to get close to it.
In all honesty, it was a strange feeling, knowing that there were still a couple of people that were keeping him from sinking entirely into himself, becoming truly how he acted -- self absorbed, cocky, and arrogant... it was as if these friends of his were his lifeline, the only people keeping him steady. And that was scary -- the need to rely on someone. Ray hated to trust, and this seemed to be trusting, or pretty damn close. Dangerously close. And trust... what did that lead to? Pain, suffering, nothing but heart-shattering hurt... it was a living hell that he had vowed he would never go through again. He'd be careful, be guarded, always and forever.
He ran his tongue over his full lips before quickly turning away from the mirror. If he stared at it much longer, he'd be forced to start trying to fix every flaw on his face. He knew that would only make things worse. He looked presentable, at least, especially with where he was going and who he was meeting up with. It had been a while since he had last gone to this restaurant, and the last time he had, he went in an over-stylized suit. Just because men were expected to wear tuxes in fancy places didn't mean Ray couldn't make it a little more... personalized. It was adorned with jewelry. It was strangely classy, teetering on gaudy. It suited his over-the-top actions, though. It was good enough.
It was a bit longer of a car ride for Ray -- he lived on the other side of the city, so it took about a half hour for him to finally arrive. Checking his watch with a vague apprehension, he realized that he was still about ten minutes early. That was okay, he was positive there were a few guys in here he could have fun with before Jane showed up. The thought made his silver eyes glint with excitement -- ah, the thrill of the hunt! He practically prowled inside, floating casually through the sea of people before taking a seat in the bar area. A few guys were around, chatting up the women who walked past. They locked eyes with him, and he gave a flirty smirk. One stared a little too long to be considered "just out of curiosity." His gaydar was fine-tuned, and he seemed to have found his prey already. He glanced at his watch. Three minutes? He'd have him with two to spare.
But then, out of the corner of his eye, he spied Jane. She seemed to be looking for him. The flirty attitude quickly disappeared, and he was as close to his real self as he could get around her. He lifted his delicate, manicured hand to wiggle his fingers at her in a wave, smiling gently. He might have even looked shy, from a passerby's point of view... and, to be honest, he was. He was an introvert, deep down, though he'd never admit that willingly to anyone. "Damn, I live a half hour away from this place and I was still early. You ruined my game!" he whined jokingly, the smile morphing back into the casual smirk once more. "What's up with you, anyway?"

Ray was someone that Jane usually could tolerate fairly well. Of the assistants, she was perhaps the most experienced and he seemed to share that quality, except with journalism.. And she admired it in others as well as in herself. She was a confident young woman and he reciprocated that as well, but occasionally she became absolutely convinced that what was on the surface wasn’t what was beneath it. There was just no way that someone could be like that without a reason, and though it was never directed at her, she’d seen him do some questionable things. Her lips curled up into a warm smile as she finally spotted him, kissing his cheek in a European sort of greeting and brushing her delicate fingers through the thick locks on top of her skull, the skin smooth around her cheek as her pinky accidentally dragged down it. “Bonjour mon cher, comment allez vous?” she questioned, the language rolling off her tongue easily.. She’d been trained in a variety of languages and dialects since a small age, just one of the many habits of old money families and their spawn. Whether or not her parents loved her may have been under scrutiny, but it definitely was not to be discussed whether or not she was well-treated. Sure she was, every time something came up she wanted, all she had to do was ask and it would be hers.. And she was educated, something most people born in America couldn’t claim. There were so many things that Jane had been privileged with and for that, she was nothing but thankful.
As for his games, his comments.. She wasn’t about to give in and make pretend like she actually took offense to it, toss around sarcastic retorts like they were nothing. Jane tried her hardest to be nice unless it was well deserved, and Ray had done nothing to generate her scorn. Lips curling in a slightly sardonic smile, she managed to slide onto the bar stool next to him before locking her blue eyes onto his, just a moment.. And then she was back calling the attention of the bartender, her low cut dress gaining them both free drinks, although she was relatively positve he had more eyes for Ray than for her. It didn’t really matter, she wasn’t nearly frustrated with it enough to disregard him and wait for better service. La Bergerie was supposedly the classiest place you could go while forking up a paycheck for food, and she had yet to try it out anyway… the service so far was excellent, she realized, nodding in thanks to the man as he slid a double whiskey into her hand. She couldn’t go with the small stuff, having built something of a ridiculous alcohol tolerance in her many years circling social events and pulling model’s hair out of their mouths while they puked up the calories they’d otherwise absorbed. She tilted her head, crossing her slender legs underneath the floor-length gown and offering him a curious expression of inspection before finally responding to his question. “Oh, nothing really…” which was the truth. There wasn’t much for to say by way of activity. “Oh,” she stated suddenly, placing her slender hand on his arm, long fingers stretching from his forearm to the crease of his elbow.
“Did you hear about that Montgomery Montgomery man? He wrote all those stories about the poor girl…” it scared her, she wouldn’t lie. Her family was publicized in America and there had probably been more than one occasion where something like that could have happened to her. “The girl.. She works at the agency, doesn’t she? I think I’ve seen her.” she shivered, eyes sparkling with something like excitement, even though she was still thoroughly revolted at the thought of someone’s own father wanting them like that. It was abnormal, she didn’t know what she’d do in that situation except run away as fast as she could and never look back. “But I didn’t read the book… I’ve just been getting call after call about it.” because she picked up whatever calls Mr. Thomas didn’t personally accept, and the fans of the magazine or the agency were among those. Suri also happened to forward all of the fanmail to a P.O. box that was within Jane’s responsibillities… she always ended up sifting through it and picking out the best pieces to stick in the pages, but so many people wrote in or called in, and only a few could actually be recognized. She’d felt bad about it for the first couple weeks, but after a while enough was enough and she ended up gradually forgetting about everything except her own wants and needs… but anyway. This creep job with the story, well.. People recognized his description of the woman as one of their models and she had to turn away a million queries as to her real identity. She could only wait until they actually found out for sure who it was. She’d be intercepting a bajillion more junk calls than she already was. Taking a delicate sip from her drink, Jane let her blue eyes roam to
